Darkness lives in the Arizona desert landscape with a haunting beauty all its own. Exotic creatures of land and sea take form in things forgotten.

This creature, a female, no doubt, lifts her dressing gown as she makes her way among cactus and coyote . . .

A close up reveals her delicate features, the curls of hair above her graceful neck . . .

This giant squid, most at home near the deepest, darkest ocean floors, finds new life on the desert floor . . .

This subservient one is too shy to look my camera in the eye, and instead bows its head before me . . .

Whereas, this one boldly seeks anyone who’ll take residence in its honey-combed chambers . . .

This poor one, fallen to the ground with its broken leg, reaches its webbed fingers to the heavens for help . . .

This giant creature swims along, dozens of tentacles glistening in the sun . . .

And the menacing watchman shown here below, taunting passersby who dare to go . . .

Some things left for dead come fully alive when we slip away from the outer world into our inner world where a quiet path is an enticing invitation.
